2016 was a huge year for this event as the name was changed to the Devonport Half Marathon and the 25k distance was replaced with the more traditional 21.1k. The event also became race one of the new created Garmin Auckland Half Marathon Series and those taking on the full distance earned a *pie* token towards their AHMS grand slam medal. Despite all those radical new ideas, the weather on race day was truly awful with flooding leading to some mega-mud on course and almost the closure of (the aptly named) Lake Road!
